Meet the Founder(s)

HoMie started as a grassroots idea to create more dignity and opportunity for people experiencing homelessness. Nick Pearce and Marcus Crook first launched a Facebook page sharing real-life stories of people experiencing homelessness in Melbourne, but quickly realised they wanted to do more. They joined with their friend Rob Gillies to create the first HoMie pop-up store. Donated clothing was set up like a retail space and people who needed it could shop for free while enjoying food and drinks. That concept has since grown into permanent bricks-and-mortar stores and a wider social enterprise. In 2026 Nick Pearce and Marcus Crook were awarded Medals of the Order of Australia for their impact.

Brand Values

People

HoMie’s entire business model is built around social impact. As a social enterprise, 100% of profits are reinvested into programs that support young people affected by homelessness.

The brand runs several initiatives, including its VIP Days, Pathway Alliance program, and retail training opportunities. These programs provide participants with job readiness skills, work experience, and pathways into employment. The focus is on long-term outcomes rather than short-term aid. Since 2015, HoMie says has donated more than  supported more than 4,177 young people. With 84% of Pathway Alliance graduates remain in meaningful work or further education 12 months after the program.

HoMie previously released collections made entirely in Melbourne, with a focus on end-to-end local and ethical production. Today, the brand works with Maker & Co., a Sydney-based organisation that supports ethical sourcing. Most pieces are produced in Shandong Province, China. HoMie states that its final production stage is audited under Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) standards, covering labour conditions, health and safety, and business ethics. While this provides some level of assurance at the manufacturing stage, there is still limited visibility across the broader supply chain and deeper labour practices.

Environment

HoMie has introduced an upcycling collection – repurposing existing garments into new pieces. This collection offers limited drops and are not always on.

Outside of this, there is limited information on materials, supply chain environmental standards, or broader strategies to reduce emissions or resource use.

HoMie is included in the LocalBorn directory primarily for its social impact rather than environmental leadership.

Animals

HoMie does not appear to use animal-derived materials in its products. However, there are no formal claims about being vegan.
