Quirkie Su

One-of-a-kind clothing made from from vintage blankets, table cloths, and other upcycled materials

Made in Australia
Upcycled
Quirkie Su is a small Australian label creating unique, genderless clothing from upcycled and reclaimed textiles, often sourced from op shops and vintage finds. Everything is handmade in Victoria by the mother-daughter duo. The range includes cosy coats made from vintage blankets and unique tops made from embroidered tablecloths. They also work with crochet, patchwork and bold printed fabrics. The style feels nostalgic and playful. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and shaped by the materials they find.

Meet the Founder(s)

Quirkie Su is run by mother-daughter duo Amanda Saunders and Rory Saunders-Shaw. Amanda first started the brand at her kitchen table, making quirky soft toys from reclaimed fabrics to sell at local markets. Rory grew up surrounded by it all. While being homeschooled, she found her own love for designing and making, and by 17 she was joining her mum at larger markets and learning the business side too. Their skills complement each other. Amanda focuses more on making and crochet, while Rory brings strengths in sewing, photography, marketing and working with stockists. Together, they gradually grew Quirkie Su from soft toys into the one-of-a-kind clothing they make today. Their love of rescuing old materials and turning them into something new has stayed at the heart of the brand.

Brand Values

People

Quirkie Su is a still a small Australian-made operation. The owners, Amanda and Rory, design and handmake all the pieces themselves.

Environment

Upcycling is at the centre of Quirkie Su. Amanda and Rory deliberately look for materials that already exist rather than starting with new fabric. This includes vintage woollen blankets, crochet rugs, embroidered tablecloths, deadstock fabric and other second-hand textiles found through op shops and similar sources.

Animals

Quirkie Su uses animal-derived materials, particularly vintage and upcycled woollen blankets, so the brand is not vegan. At the time of writing, we found no current products using fur, exotic skins or other less common animal-derived materials.
