Dusty

Turning cotton blankets into one-of-a-kind pieces

Made in Australia
Upcycled
Dusty is an Australian label creating one-of-a-kind pieces from reclaimed textiles. Their best known for transforming vintage cotton blankets into wearable garments. The style leans earthy and playful, with soft tones and pastels, patchwork details, and a handmade feel. Pieces are made in small quantities or as one-offs, with some custom orders available. The brand also runs sewing workshops and courses to encourage people to repair and make their own clothes.

Meet the Founder(s)

Hannah Young started Dusty as a way to rethink waste and extend the life of existing textiles. While working for a local brand, she helped create a collection using deadstock fabrics and this showed her how much material is left unused. That experience sparked a shift in how she saw fashion. The name “Dusty” is a tribute to her grandmother, who first introduced her to creativity and the joy of making things by hand. That influence still shapes the brand today, from the focus on texture and materials to the slower, more thoughtful approach. What began as curiosity has grown into a deeper purpose, not just creating garments but building a community.

Brand Values

People

Dusty operates as a small, independent label with production closely tied to the founder. All garments are made locally in the Northern Rivers of NSW, supporting the local community and reducing transport-related impact.

The brand’s community workshops add its positive impact. By teaching repair skills and encouraging people to engage with their clothes more thoughtfully, Dusty contributes to a more conscious fashion culture.

Environment

Dusty’s strongest environmental focus is its use of upcycled materials. Garments are made from existing textiles, particularly vintage blankets, which reduces the need for new raw materials and helps divert fabric from landfill. This extends to smaller details too, with vintage or reclaimed buttons often used.

The brand works in very small runs, often producing one-off pieces. This naturally limits overproduction and excess stock.

There is a clear focus on circularity through both product and education. Dusty runs regular workshops that teach people how to mend and repair clothing, encouraging longer wear and reducing textile waste beyond just their own products.

Animals

Dusty primarily uses reclaimed textiles, including vintage blankets. Seems to be mostly made form cotton. But there is no clear statement on vegan status.
