The brand is best known for its colourful, expressive pieces, including reversible jackets and garments made from repurposed tapestries. Each piece is handmade in Australia by the founders using materials sourced from op shops, vintage fabrics and discarded textiles that are transformed into new designs. Spunky Bruiser also offers custom pieces, including garments made from sentimental fabrics provided by customers. Meet the Founder(s)

Spunky Bruiser was founded by Emily and Oliver, a creative duo who began experimenting with old fabrics and second-hand textiles as a way to challenge the waste they saw in the fashion industry. Neither of them came from a traditional fashion design background. Instead, they taught themselves how to sew and construct garments, learning through trial, experimentation and curiosity. What started as a small creative project quickly grew into a brand focused on giving discarded textiles a second life. Their goal has always been to show that clothing can be reused, repaired and transformed rather than thrown away. Through their work, they hope to encourage others to rethink waste and see the creative potential in materials that already exist.

Spunky Bruiser garments are handmade in Australia by the founders, keeping production small and transparent. As a very small independent brand, there is no complex supply chain or large manufacturing network involved. Materials are sourced mainly from second-hand and reclaimed textiles.

Environment

Spunky Bruiser’s environmental approach centres on upcycling and extending the life of existing textiles. Rather than producing new fabrics, the brand sources materials from op shops, vintage fabrics and discarded textiles that would otherwise go to waste. These materials are transformed into new garments, reducing demand for new textile production and helping divert clothing from landfill.

Each piece is handmade in Australia in small quantities, with many garments completely one-of-a-kind.
